It’s over. It’s old. It’s not cute anymore. Yet another deformed failure of a 4chan meme, the idea that you can use “fail” as an adjective enjoyed a reasonable life as something kind of funny then suffered a tremendous plunge into the depths of dreadfully sad overuse by excited teenagers.
Is it interesting as a new linguistic phenomenon? We suppose. However, its time has passed. You’d do better to be genuinely eloquent in decrying a “fail”, or at least use your vocabulary and pick something more apt for the moment. Some have declared it rude and dismissive, but everyone should find it lazy.
The jury was out on this one until recently, where “fail” overusage has risen to epic levels. It is now advisable to avoid the usage of the word “fail” almost entirely. It should still be okay to say “My test was a failure” and “I failed my exam”, but the root word “fail” is extremely risky when re-appropriated as a noun.
