You’re using it wrong. Originally coined with a vaguely legitimate purpose, “butthurt” has been driven into the ground by people like you who don’t really grasp the term and like to parrot whatever trendy jargon they hear in a feeble attempt to seem hip and clever.
Butthurt very specifically refers to the irrational whining and childish behaviour a person exhibits as a result of being entangled in petty drama on the Internet. Someone who is trying to debate you with stupid opinions and a needlessly defensive attitude is not necessarily butthurt; they could just be an idiot.
If you have skilfully pinned someone down in an Internet argument and they’re absolutely unwilling to concede defeat, opting only to whine about it at you or others. Or, if you just exposed a closeted furry’s secret porn stash to all of his friends, only to have him take down his personal vanity website in a fit of rage. Even in scenarios such as these, be sure to use the term correctly and sparingly.
